China's NEA: 38.62 GW of new wind capacity connected in the first half of 2026

On 30 July 2026, China's National Energy Administration (NEA) held a press conference on renewable energy grid connection and operation in the first half of 2026.

New capacity: mostly onshore

China connected 38.62 GW of new wind capacity in the first half of the year: 37.78 GW onshore and 0.84 GW offshore.

Total capacity: 679 GW

By the end of June 2026, China's grid-connected wind capacity reached 679 GW, up 18.5% year on year, including 630 GW onshore and 48.41 GW offshore.

Generation and utilization

Wind farms generated 598.4 TWh in the first half, with an average utilization rate of 90.9%. Combined wind and solar capacity reached 1,951 GW, about 48.3% of China's total installed power capacity, and wind and solar generation together rose 9.3% to 1.25 trillion kWh.

Onshore projects made up most of the new capacity; offshore additions were relatively small at 0.84 GW.
